Tear Trough Fillers in Toronto

The area beneath the eyes is one of the first parts of the face to show signs of aging. Genetic factors, loss of collagen, weakening of lower lid tissues, and selective loss of cheek volume can cause the appearance of lower lid bags, development of tear troughs, dark circles under the eyes, and wrinkles that can make a person look older and less well-rested than desirable. Fortunately for Toronto-area patients of Dr. Lawrence Tong, tear trough dermal filler treatments can help rejuvenate the lower lid region, providing instant results with no downtime.

Benefits of Tear Trough Filler Injections

The tear trough is the slightly depressed area between the lower eyelid and the top of the cheek. The tear trough usually forms in the presence of a lower lid eye bag. Lower lid eye bags usually develop with aging, but young patients can have mild or even more severe degrees as well. The tear trough occurs when the eye bag forms a well defined crease/valley along, and its lower border. The depression creates a clear demarcation between the lower lid and cheek, and its presence gives the appearance of aging and tiredness to the face. Through the application of dermal fillers to the tear trough area, the valley is minimized or even eliminated. The effect is that patients can enjoy a range of facial rejuvenation benefits, including:

  • Filled-in under-eye hollows
  • Reduction or elimination of under-eye bags by improving the contour and minimizing the visibility of the eye bag margins
  • Reduction or elimination of dark circles under the eyes through reducing shadows caused by the tear trough
  • Minimize appearance of fine lines and wrinkles1

Dermal Fillers for Tear Trough Treatment

  • Restylane® dermal fillers
  • JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA™

The Tear Trough Filler Procedure

There is no preparation you need to do before tear trough filler treatment. This treatment is performed in our office and takes about 20 minutes.

Before beginning tear trough filler application, Dr. Tong will gently cleanse the area under your eyes and may apply a topical anesthetic
to help you remain comfortable. The fillers contain a local anesthetic which will help minimize discomfort.
He will then use a small needle or cannula to carefully inject the dermal filler.

Recovery After Tear Trough Fillers

The results of tear trough filler are immediate and no downtime is necessary. Some patients may experience redness, swelling, or tenderness, but this should quickly subside. We advise patients not to exercise until one day after the procedure. Makeup may be applied the same day.
